Life at Labuta Laureada is built around the land, the animals and the people who help make this place what it is. Our volunteer programme offers the opportunity to step into that life for a while — to get involved, learn new things, share your own skills and experience rural Portugal from the inside rather than simply passing through as a visitor.

What might you get involved with?
No two days are exactly the same. Depending on the season, the needs of the land and your interests, volunteering can involve helping with the horses and other animals, gardening, maintenance, cleaning, land work, bamboo and sustainable projects, preparing spaces, helping with events or supporting our creative and rural activities.
We also welcome people who bring their own skills and ideas. Perhaps you’re a musician, photographer, designer, gardener, builder, cook, social media wizard or simply someone who enjoys getting stuck in. There are many ways to contribute.
More than just work
We see volunteering as an exchange, not simply a list of jobs.
You’ll have the opportunity to experience the landscape, meet other travellers, share meals and stories, explore the surrounding area and become part of the rhythm of life here. Sometimes there is hard physical work; sometimes there is time to slow down and enjoy the surroundings. And quite often, the most valuable part is the unexpected stuff — a conversation over dinner, working alongside someone you’ve just met, watching the horses in the evening or discovering a new skill.
We believe everyone arrives with something to give and something to learn.
A real rural experience
Labuta Laureada is not a polished resort or a conventional holiday destination. It’s a living, evolving rural project. Things get muddy. Plans change. Animals have their own ideas. There is always something that needs doing.
