Music has always been at the heart of Labuta Laureada. Our house and surrounding land provide an unusual setting for music production, recording, intimate live performances, listening sessions, workshops and creative gatherings — bringing together the character of a working rural home with a deep connection to electronic and independent music.
At the centre of this is our garage music studio, available for hire by producers, musicians and artists looking for a peaceful and inspiring place to work. The studio is also the home base of Larry Lush, electronic music producer, DJ and musician with more than 30 years of experience in music production and a career that has included work with artists including Faithless, Tall Paul, Mixmaster Morris and Arthur Baker, as well as remix projects for artists such as Pet Shop Boys, George Michael and INXS. Larry also brings decades of experience working with Logic Pro, electronic music production and the wider craft of making records.
But the music doesn’t stop inside the studio.
We are developing Labuta Laureada as a space for live music and cultural events, using the house, garden, natural surroundings and other spaces across the property to create intimate and memorable experiences. From acoustic performances and electronic music to experimental gatherings, workshops and outdoor events, we’re interested in creating occasions where the setting is as much a part of the experience as the music itself.
One of the first examples was Fogovivência, our grassroots music and arts gathering created in support of the Bombeiros Voluntários. The weekend brought together artists, musicians, local people and visitors, with performances, film, art and conversation woven into the landscape. A particular highlight was the beautiful live performance by Emmy Curl, which perfectly captured what we hope these events can become — music, people and place coming together in a genuinely special setting.
